Cornerstone AFC, Inc. is a family-owned and faith-based organization with deep roots in Michigan’s adult foster care community. Founded in the early 1990s after decades of personal experience with de-institutionalization and special needs care, Cornerstone began with adults living in the founders’ family home and has since expanded to over 20 care homes.

Our family was instrumental in the pilot process of de-institutionalization in the 1970s. Our parents, through that experience as well as other personal experiences, realized that they had a passion for caring for others. This led to them adopting 3 special needs children and starting Cornerstone/Hernandez Homes back in the early 90s, where we had adults with intellectual disabilities living with us in our family home for approximately 6 years. As the need for care grew, our business has grown. It is our mission to deliver, with a passionate approach, the highest quality services for individuals using a person-first philosophy.
